LOWE'S DISCOUNTS

"Lowe's Companies, Inc. announced today it will expand its support of the military by offering an all day, every day 10 percent discount to all military personnel who are active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members, with a valid, government-issued military ID card.

All other military veterans will receive the discount on the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day weekends.

Lowe's was founded on the heels of World War II by veterans Jim Lowe and Carl Buchan and has always been a supporter of the military, said Larry D. Stone, Lowe's president and chief operating officer. The year-round discount program is one way we are reaffirming our commitment to the thousands of men and women who are serving throughout the world, as well as their family members at home.

The discount is available on in-stock and Special Order purchases up to $5,000. Excluded from the discount are sales via Lowes.com, previous sales, and purchases of services or gift cards.

While Lowe's has had a military discount program in the past during select times of year, the new policy will allow those who are serving to benefit from the discount whenever they need it the most.

What a great way to say thank you, said Sloan Gibson, president and CEO of the USO. We salute Lowe's for the company's commitment to helping military personnel and their families who served and continue to serve our nation.

The USO was also selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Lowe's Employee Giving Campaign in January. This initiative allows Lowe's employees to donate directly from their paychecks to support those who are serving our country.

In addition to offering military discounts at specific times during the year, Lowe's has extended benefits for its employees serving in the military and offers employment opportunities to military personnel after their military service has ended. Currently, more than 12,000 Lowe's employees are military veterans or reservists.

About Lowe's

With fiscal year 2008 sales of $48.2 billion, Lowe's Companies, Inc. is a FORTUNE 50 company that serves approximately 14 million customers a week at more than 1,700 home improvement stores in North America. THE FORGOTTEN FACES OF FORT CRAIG - month of February

"The Forgotten Faces of Ft. Craig" Opens February 1st at 4816 Main Street, Houston TX 77004

A collaboration between the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, The US Bureau of Reclamations, Nationally recognized Forensic Sculptor Amanda Danning and the University of Houston's Dr. Ali Kamrani is set to debut in Houston. Dr. Ali Kamrani along with his team in the Industrial Engineering department will replicate the skulls of Civil War and Buffalo Soldiers. Forensic Sculptor Amanda Danning will use one of the models to perform live progressive reconstruction of the face of U.S Army Pvt. Thomas Smith, a Buffalo Soldier.

This awesome story of grave robbers, forensic science and redemption will be on exhibit through February 28, 2010. Bureau of Reclamations Anthropologists Jeff Hanson and Mark Hungerford were onsite when the remains were discovered in Fort Craig and are leading contributors to this project. Federal officials shipped 39 sets of well-preserved remains from New Mexico to Washington. The Smithsonian Institute National Museum of Natural History, Division of Physical Anthropology Head, Doug Owsley, along with other scientists examined the bones with microscopes, CT scanners, X-ray machines and digital measuring devices intending to determine the identities of the fallen soldiers. The study provided clues to the isolated existence at Fort Craig from the 1850s to the 1880s. Through the use of modern technology, scientists were able to positively identify 3 of the soldiers by comparing the details of their remains with the military enlistment records. After concluding the examination of the remains, they shipped back to New Mexico, where they were re-buried with full military honors at the Military Cemetery in Santa Fe.

Our 6000 square foot theatre style exhibit will allow visitors to experience first hand the science behind how forensic anthropologists and sculptors exam human remains to determine identities and complete facial reconstructions.

Come and see the artifacts and photos from Fort Craig as well as the Civil War. This is the story of how once forgotten soldiers become the center of attention and admiration. The exhibit is bound to capture all the excitement and wonderment that can only be described as incredible. Our story begins with one soldier, Thomas Smith.

Where? 4816 Main Street, near Rosedale, next to the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in the museum district.

When? February 2010, Monday-Friday 10-6, Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 1-5 How long? Approximately - 1 hr 15 minutes Cost? General Admission -$15 Students with ID - $5.

DeBakey VA Medical Center, monthly legal advice clinics at the US VETS at Midtown Terrace residential facility, and quarterly legal advice clinics at DeGeorge at Union Station residential facility, as well as at stand-downs and other gatherings of veterans.
