HOME AT LAST 

 

 After 54 years, M. Sgt. Billy G. Donahoe has finally come home.  On Tuesday, December 28th, 11 members of the Lone Star Chapter and wives, attended the burial of M Sgt. Billy G. Donahoe.  Sgt. Donahoe was a member of the 7th Inf. Division and was listed as missing in action at the Chosin Reservoir on Dec. 12, 1950.   The North Korean Government permitted the U. S. to go back and recover  remains.  Donahoe was found with 11 other soldiers whose remains have been repatriated to the United States.  He was identified not by DNA, but by his dog tags, found with the remains.
 A Memorial was held at Forrest Park Lawndale Cemetery with the Honor Guard from Ft. Sam Houston rendering  full Military Honors, with the flag folding and presentation to the family.  Also in attendance were David & Frances Velasco.  David’s brother Frank is also listed as MIA at the Chosin Reservoir, in the same area.
 This was a fitting & moving honor bestowed to a fallen veteran.
 Of significance during the Memorial service, was a request that each KWVA Veteran to stand and identify themselves by name, service unit and years served in Korea.  In so doing  -  The veterans helped to bridge over 50 years of absence and allow each veteran to participate in the ceremony.  In attendance were two veterans of the battle at the Chosin Reservoir, Charles Laird and Manny Carnero.
