Brent Kratky

Chief Experience Officer, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center

Brent joined the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) as Chief Experience Officer in August 2020.  In this recently established role, he is responsible for improving both the Veteran and employee experience at the MEDVAMC Medical Center campus and 10 community-based clinics across the greater Houston area.  In this capacity, Brent oversees the MEDVAMC patient advocates, Congressional correspondence, information desk, Red Coat Ambassadors, and telephone operators.

The MEDVAMC serves 141,000 Veterans in southeast Texas, through an average of 40,000 healthcare encounters every week.  The MEDVAMC hospital is classified as a “1A” facility, the highest complexity level in the Veterans Health Administration, offering a full-range of inpatient and outpatient services with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.  Through affiliations with the Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas, the MEDVAMC trains more than 180 residents annually, the largest program of its kind in the VA.  The MEDVAMC is a member institution of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the world's largest concentration of non-profit hospital and health care organizations located in Houston.

Prior to his selection as Chief Experience Officer, Brent served as Chief of Staff at the VA Financial Services Center in Austin, Texas, providing accounting, payroll, payment, travel and claims processing services on a fee-for-service basis throughout the department.  During his 18-year tenure at the VA FSC, he led strategy and business operations growing annual revenue from $30 million to over $600 million annually.

Brent graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Business Administration.  He resides in Magnolia, Texas with his wife, Jennifer, and their two children, Tara and Theo.
